North Carolina has its own alcohol rules, so we confirm the local requirement for your address rather than assuming Virginia’s applies.

OBX weddings happen in rental houses, not ballrooms
Most of what we are asked to do here is a wedding or a milestone in a rented oceanfront house: twenty bedrooms, a pool deck, a kitchen island, and no bar anywhere. That is a good thing. It means you are usually renting the working kit rather than a bar, which is the cheapest good answer we offer.
It also means access is the whole planning problem. Beach road parking, sand, a long carry from the street and a kitchen already busy with catering. We plan for that before we plan the menu.

Private homes and rental properties are most of what we do here — a named venue is not a requirement. If a venue runs its own food and beverage we can still staff it, or run a fully non-alcoholic program.

Outer Banks questions we get
Do you travel to the Outer Banks from Virginia Beach?
Yes. The northern beaches are closer to us than parts of our own service area are to each other, and we run down regularly. Travel appears as its own line on your estimate because you are outside our core Hampton Roads area. You see the number before you commit.
Hatteras and Ocracoke are a longer proposition. Ask and we will tell you honestly what is workable.
Do we need a permit for a rental house event in the Outer Banks?
No. A private event at a house does not need a permit. You buy the alcohol, it is yours, nothing is sold at the bar, and we are there as the staff who pour it.
That covers essentially everything we are asked to do in OBX. Rental house weddings, welcome parties, family weeks and retreats. If you are planning something where drinks are being sold rather than hosted, say so early, because that is a different arrangement and we will tell you so.
Our wedding is at a rental house. Do we need to rent a bar?
Usually not, and that is money back in your pocket. Most OBX houses have a kitchen island, a pool-deck counter or a covered porch we can dress with the general bar tools package and a rolling ice well.

What about parking, sand and the carry from the street?
Tell us early and it is a non-issue; tell us on the day and it costs everyone an hour. We need to know where the van can sit, how far the carry is and whether there are stairs.
Beach-road houses with a long carry are normal for us. We just staff and time for it.
Can you do a fully non-alcoholic bar?
Yes, and on a week where families are together with kids around it comes up often. Shaken lemonades, fruit spritzers, cold-pressed juices and dirty sodas, cut and garnished on site and served from a proper setup by the same uniformed team.
How many bartenders will we need?
One per 50 guests, and a bar-back per 150 on a busy bar. At a rental house the answer is usually one or two, and we will say so rather than selling you a crew.
