How Much Does a Mobile Bar Cost in Hampton Roads?
"How much does a mobile bar cost?" is the first question almost everyone asks, and it's the one most bar companies answer with "fill out a form and we'll get back to you." Here's the straight answer for Hampton Roads: what the line items are, what they actually run, and two worked examples so you can see how a real event adds up.
How much does a mobile bartender cost in Hampton Roads?
Executive Beverage's published rate is $40 an hour per bartender, with a four-hour minimum. That rate is the same whatever the bar style — classic cocktails, craft pours, beer-and-wine-only. The floor for a small event is therefore one bartender for four hours: $160.
Other roles are priced the same transparent way: $35 an hour for bar-backs, cocktail servers, and event waitstaff, and $50 an hour for wine professionals. You can see the full lineup on the mobile bartenders page.
How many bartenders do you need?
The working rule is about one bartender for every 75 guests. A 60-person backyard party runs on one. A 150-guest reception wants two, and once you're above roughly 150 guests a bar-back becomes worth it — someone restocking ice, cups, and mixers so the bartenders never leave the bar. More bartenders means shorter lines, which is the real reason this number matters: nobody should spend the toast waiting for a drink.
What does it cost to rent a bar?
The bartender doesn't bring the bar — bars, glassware, and ice are separate rentals, quoted as their own line items rather than buried in a flat package price. The portable bar sizes on the bar rentals page run from the compact Quarter Bar at $275, built for patios and tight backyards, up to the Total Barrel Package at $525, and the illuminated Hampton LED Bar at $600 for bigger celebrations. Glassware and decor are added on top if you want them. The bartender's own bar kit comes with the team — you're not renting shakers and jiggers separately.
What other fees should you expect?
- Delivery: $125 for a standard delivery, $250 when the bar has to go up stairs or to a second floor.
- Rental damage waiver: priced at 10% of the rental total.
- Setup and breakdown: quoted separately, since it depends on the venue and the size of the setup.
- Service charge on large events: events of 100 or more guests carry a service charge of $3 to $6 per guest, which replaces tipping. Under 100 guests, gratuity is optional.
- Deposit: 50% to hold your date.
Does the price include the alcohol?
No — and that's a feature, not a catch. You buy the alcohol yourself at retail price and keep whatever is left over. We don't mark up what's poured, and you're never paying a per-drink or per-bottle premium. Beverage program planning is complimentary: we build the drink menu and a shopping list that tells you exactly what to buy and how much, so you don't overbuy or run dry.
What does a real event add up to?
Two illustrative examples using the published rates above. Alcohol, setup and breakdown time, and the rental damage waiver are not included in these totals.
A 60-guest backyard party, 4 hours
- 1 bartender, 4 hours at $40 — $160
- The Quarter Bar — $275
- Standard delivery — $125
- No service charge (under 100 guests; gratuity is optional)
About $560 for professional bar service, the bar itself, and delivery.
A 150-guest reception, 5 hours
- 2 bartenders, 5 hours each at $40 — $400
- The Total Barrel Package — $525
- Standard delivery — $125
- Service charge at $3–$6 per guest — $450 to $900
About $1,500 to $1,950, depending on where the service charge lands.
How do you keep the cost down?
- Match the bar to the guest count. A 40-person party doesn't need the biggest bar; the Quarter Bar exists for exactly that.
- Use a signature-cocktail menu. Two or three well-chosen cocktails plus beer and wine moves faster than a full open bar and shrinks your shopping list.
- Book the right number of hours. The four-hour minimum covers most events, and the planning consult will tell you whether you actually need a fifth.
- Ask about the military and first-responder discount. It's 10% off.
What's the next step?
Every event ends up a little different, so the fastest way to a firm number is the estimate builder — pick your date, guest count, and bar style and it prices the event the same way as the numbers above. Events run from 10 to 10,000 guests, so there's no event too small to ask about. You can also browse the rental equipment and beverage experiences before you decide.
